Here We Go!

Not sure how long I’ll keep up any sort of blogging. This is just the first entry, simply because, otherwise, there’s a silly generic “Hello World” blog entry that just smacks of “noob”.

Since moving to Ocean Shores, WA, in May of 2017, I’ve found it difficult to obtain hardwood from local donors, as there is very little hardwood IN Ocean Shores. There’s just a smattering of Alder and Maple, and quite a bit of small Myrtle and small Crab Apple, and that’s about it.

I’ve had it suggested to scour the beach for driftwood, but having some experience with the effect of embedded sand on turning tools, I’m just a bit reluctant.

But, I’ll keep asking — it’s a small community and word of mouth — what they, here, call the “coconut telegraph” — is quite effective.

We’ll see.

  1. Nice start to your Blog, Byron. Guess you’ll have to set up a series of stopping posts on you inland/outland journeys.
Your website is just awesome – beautiful and simple, interesting….and what great ideas you are sharing and making available. If I had my sewing machine with me in NYC, I’d get the double seam ripper. Cool!

And I continue to love purple heart wood (I think that’s what it’s called, your multicolored pieces and the urns! What a great idea. I wonder where else you can advertise – a funeral home in your area?

    Proud of my Bro!!

    1. Thanks, Sis. As far as the urns, I’m going to try my hand at making pet urns — a bit simpler and less demanding in terms of size — and put up adverts in the local Paws and at the local vet’s office.
